I am interested in the structure-magnetism and structure-magneto optical activity correlation in a number of, mainly epitaxial, materials systems. This covers ultrathin metallic films, metal/insulator trilayers and multilayers, and magnetic nanoparticles both in thin films form and embedded in a dielectric matrix.

Topics of interest are:

Self assembled and artificially organized magnetic nanostructures.
Optical, magneto-optical and photonic properties: magneto-photonic properties.
Epitaxy by sputtering and laser ablation.
High magnetic anisotropy binary alloys.
Systems with highly distorted lattice.
Magnetic interactions and magneto-optical activity in 2D magnetic nanoparticle systems.
Low dimensionality and mesoscopic effects. Size reduction effects in the physical properties.

Experimental techniques available:

Fabrication: UHV sputtering + laser ablation deposition system with in-situ RHEED and transverse KERR facilities.

Structural Characterization: XRD, AFM

Magnetic Characterizatin : MFM

Magneto-optic characterization: Polar + transverse Kerr spectroscopy. Magneto optical Torque.

Processing: UV and e-beam lithograpy.
